We've been comparing garment quality a lot in my trend forecasting class and I've learned that quality versus quantity is a very important topic in fashion. When purchasing a wardrobe staple, like a blazer, quality is something to look for. A staple garment is something you'll want to last you a lifetime. They make up the basis of your wardrobe! They're incredibly versatile pieces and you want to be able to rely on them again and again. So when it comes to the essential pieces of your wardrobe, think quality, not quantity. Here are a few of what I consider wardrobe essentials:

At first I wasn't so crazy about this spring color but I have to admit the more and more I see it, the more I love it. I'm not a fan of wearing pink or bright colors but I like that this color fits neither of those categories. I can't wait to try out this color this season! In fact, I'm starting with my new J Brand Essie nail polish above that I just got yesterday! I know it's a bit advanced, but start stocking up on this color for spring!

Went to one of my favorite little flea markets this morning and came home with arms full of goodies! The dress above is my favorite purchase today. It's from the 1940's and is insanely perfect. Heather of Pretty Little Inspiration surprised me with this unique DIY white board for my birthday! It's such a fun and simple DIY and makes for a great gift. I'm in the process of cleaning out and organizing my room and this white board is going to be so helpful for my many to-do lists I create throughout the week.

Do it Yourself:
1. Find a frame you like. I love the rustic touch this frame has.
2. Choose a pretty piece of fabric or paper to put in the frame as a background. Heather chose this white lace paper.
3. Get some fun markers to write on it with and vuala... you just made a white board.

A sunny day indeed. My gorgeousssss Sam Edelman Zoe booties came in the mail Monday and I'm in love! They fit to the T and to my surprise are not only comfortable, but super easy to walk in! Although, I have yet to wear them for an 8 hour work shift. I got this shirt recently and I like it so much that I might go back and get it in white too! It's so unique and I love that it's longer in back and cropped in front. Can't wait to play around with how to wear it. This past Friday was my birthday! It's usually "just another day" for me but this year was a bit different. Taryn of Style-Phenomenon, took me for a surprise lunch at a beautiful beach front restaurant in Laguna Beach where the weather was to die for. She then topped off the amazing day with getting me Sam Edelman Zoe boots for my birthday! It was by far the best birthday I've had yet and I couldn't have spent with a more lovely person. Thriftful Tips.

My P.I.C., Taryn of Style-Phenomenon, and I hit the jackpot the other day when searching for a new thrift store. Not only did we find one, we found 4.. and they were all in the same parking lot! It was like a thrifters dream come true! But a tip I will gladly pass on to you.. don't dress up to go thrifting. Our hunting was cut short when we got hit on one too many times. Despite being creeped out, we left fully satisfied, arms accessorized with overfilled bags of vintage finds.
Here's a few helpful tips to thrifting:

-Dress down, not up.

-Be patient! Bring your ipod to keep you distracted.

-Some of the best finds are hidden or barried where no one thinks to look.

-Really inspect garments before making any purchases.. most are final sale.

-Pay attention to the sales!

I got these platform Steve Madden boots a few months ago at a local thrift store and was quickly assured they were the perfect pair when a friend showed me how closely they resemble the Chloe Sevigny boots for Opening Ceremony pictured below. Am I right? Looks like I was ahead of the trend on this one :)

This has been by far the hardest week I've ever had to endure in my life. My father went in for a routine surgery one week ago and since then, there has been bad news and downward turns, complication after complication arises daily. I'm now on my seventh day at the hospital and have not been home at all. I figured a little blogging might soothe my soul. We're praying for his health every minute of the day and trying to take one day at a time, but it's definitely a rough emotional roller coaster. My dad is the bravest man I know and he's so incredibly strong. I know he's going to make it. He has to.

After a long morning of lounging in my pj's, Taryn and I took a trip to downtown Fullerton where we shopped at the best Buffalo Exchange out of the three locations I've been to, and a cute vintage store called American Vintage. I found a Free People lace top, (the exact one I've been looking for), some decadent jewelry, and a few other goodies that I can't wait to share. I think I need to start allowing myself one day a month to have days like this one.

Over the past few months I've discovered that this scarf is quite possibly the most versatile thing in my closet. I recently did a how-to ( shown here) showing the different ways to wear a scarf but I left out this option. In adding my vintage Chanel clip-on earring as a brooch, this shawl like scarf became a top. If you're having one of those days when you feel like you don't own anything cute, get creative with what you have!

And yes, my pants are velvet... how sweet are they?! Velvet is making a comeback. I'm in love.

Yesterday, my design class took a feildtrip to our art gallery on campus where artwork by Ron English was being showcased. I had never heard of him before, and now I can't get him off my mind.

He's most known for his so called "vandalism" on billboards. He creates spoof advertising that doesn't lie to America and illegally posts them on billboards all over. He claims art isn't made to sit in a gallery for a few weeks. It's made to be seen and make a statement. And there is no doubt that Ron's art is made to be seen. I find it inspiring the risks he takes to share what he's passionate about with the world. His artwork has such meaning and is so incredibly well done. Here were a few of my favorite pieces.

As crazy as this may sound coming from a fashion blogger, I've struggled with what my style is. In fact, creating this blog has immensely helped me do some soul searching. I know what I like, but can't seem to hone in on how to portray that in what I wear. Lately, I've come to find that the bohemian 70's look really hits home for me and discovering this, has made shopping a lot easier. Hippies have always brought a lot of inspiration to me and for some reason it took me far too long to realize that my style can be a canvas of my inspiration. How to: Dress Comfy Chic.

Every one of us have those days (particularly Mondays) where leaving the house in a pair of sweats and Ugg boots seems much more appealing than that tight mini skirt and heels you'd planned on wearing. Thankfully, it is possible to be comfortable and chic! Being a number one fan of this look, here are some of my tips to help you get away with dressing comfortable:

1. Tee Off. We all know how comfortable a big, loose, worn-in tee can be. Throwing on an old band tee looks more stylish than an old team shirt. A lot of band tees have super cool designs on them too!

2. The Cardi. Oversized knit sweaters and cardigans scream comfort. It's basically like wearing a blanket, but cuter!

3. Bad hair day? Grab a scarf! Scarves are one of the most versatile accessories (as seen here) and can easily be your solution to a bad hair day. Accessories are key!

4. Decorate your legs. Take a twist on the classic black leggings and go for bold prints or textures like my pleather leggings.

Last tip, don't ever leave your house in something you're not comfortable in!

I love the feel of the whole area and it is pretty much an exact replica of an apartment I see myself living in somewhere in New York. Where's your dream house?

I recently found this vintage Banana Republic poncho, yes.. a poncho, but it's not your typical poncho that looks like a sheet overflowing you... It's sheer and the perfect fit. If you want to wear a poncho this season, to avoid overflowing yourself in material, try and find one that's a slinky material so that it falls against your body.

This past Thursday night, I attended the BCBG Gala at the Wilshire in Beverly Hills honoring Max and Lubov Azria (designers and founders). Little did I know, I would later get to meet Max and Lubov. When I did, it was such an honor. They are both fabulous and sweet people and Lubov is even more gorgeous in person! It was really important that I wore BCBG, especially because I met the designers. A tip of advice, If you ever attend a gala or event for a specific designer, be sure to wear that designer. To put it simply, it was a night I will never forget.

I love the rain. I love the feeling I get inside on a rainy day, and the smell of the street with a fresh pavement of rain. It's safe to say that pretty much every girl is born with expensive taste, including me. But thankfully, I was also born a bargain shopper. I've been spending a lot of my shopping time at thrift stores, often leaving with a bag full of goodies and money still in my wallet! Getting more bang for my buck has always been something I aim for while shopping. This outfit that I wore the other day cost me a total of $25 (minus my boots)! I fortunately found this faux fur vest at a local consignment store for $14, my blouse was $1, and Urban was having an amazing sale where I found these jeans at $10. I'm beginning to get pretty good at finding cheap and chic and so can you! I have good news..You DON'T need to spend a fortune to be fashionable!

F21 Goes 70's.

If you've been around my blog long enough, you know by know that I love the 70's. Lucky for me, Forever 21 has come out with a 70's inspired line! Though it doesn't quite take the place of real 70's vintage clothes, they did a great job recreating it. I've never been one to have much luck. In fact, I've stopped spending money on buying raffle tickets because by now, I know that I have absolutely no chance of winning. But this past weekend, the stars all aligned for me when I found this Marc Jacobs clutch at a thrift store. Not only was it brand new, not only did it still have the original price tag of $330, not only was it absolutely perfect .. it was 50% off the marked price! So basically.. I got a brand new Marc Jacobs clutch for $8. Try and beat that!

After wearing my summer wedges for the past couple months, I've come to the realization that wedges are not only more comfortable than pumps, but also far more easier to walk in. But a little pain never stands in the way of fashion! And though YSL's pumps that are designed to perfection could never be forgotten, I am thankful for the look-a-likes that are a little closer to my price range. I'm estatic to see that they're playing around with the design of the pump and can't wait to see what winter brings. What height will you go to this season?

I was heart broken however, when I went to put on my black ankle boots only to find that the soles were split in half! But, fate had something in store for me. I made a pit stop to my all-time favorite local consignment store and there staring straight at me where these Steve Madden combat boots.. in MY size! So I bought them, and now I'm the happiest girl in the world.

Waredrobe Runway Show.

This past Friday, Taryn (of Style-Phenomenon) and I attended the Weardrobe Fashion show at The Lab. There must have been a pile of drool at my feet by the end of the show. Clothes from Blends, Treasury Department, Buffalo Exchange, Hive, and Troy Lee were featured and I found that now not only was I drooling, I had to remind myself to blink. It was an amazing short but sweet show with music you couldn't help but dance to. And of course we couldn't have ended the night better without a stop to Yogurtland.

I went shopping for the first time in months and boy did it feel good. I've forgotten how much joy I feel when I try on something new and fall in love instantly. I desperately need to do a closet detox before buying anything else new.. I don't think it's a good sign that my clothing rack is bending in the middle and I've run out of hangers. :) I attended Thread, my first fashion tradeshow, for my job yesterday. Although it was a tad disappointing in the way of vendors, I still felt quite lucky to be there sporting a VIP wrist band and walking around as a buyer. It might have been my first tradeshow, but it definitely won't be my last.

I am extremely proud to say I accomplished my summer challenge and didn't buy any new clothing for the whole summer! It was probably one of the hardest goals I've ever made, especially with my addiction to shopping, but I made it through and couldn't be happier. Not only did I find it easier to save my money, but I also found some great one-of-a-kind pieces from all the thrifting I've done. My challenge has come to an end, and I am eager to get to an H&M and Urban Outfitters, but I think I may just stick to thrift shopping for a while longer.. in the mean time, I DO need to do a little back to school shopping.. and I'm dying for a new pair of shoes :) I encourage everyone to take on a challenge like mine. We overproduce so many clothes and yet there are still tons without homes. Every little bit helps!

The print is retro and bold and the shape of the dress makes me feel giddy inside when I wear it. A year ago, I never could have imagined myself wearing such a thing, but fashion is fun.. so I don't see any harm in having a little fun, right?

This past weekend, one of my favorite indie craft shows, Unique LA, was brought to my area for a Unique OC. I was sent there on a mission for work to scout out some vendors for our store. One booth caught my eye in an instant, St. Eve Jewelry. Their vintage inspired bracelets, necklaces, and earrings are mixed with different metals and chains to give each piece it's own uniqueness. I purchased the bracelet pictured below, and already have a craving for more.

When it comes to dressing according to the weather, it is rare that I will get it right. I seem to make a habit of wearing the wrong outfits on the wrong days. Yesterday, I couldn't wait to wear this new vintage long-sleeve blouse and after walking out of my house, it occurred to me that it was 80 degrees outside. I was already regretting it. While it may not have been the smartest choice to wear this long-sleeve in summer, I assure you it will get it's wear in winter.

Two vacations later and I'm finally back! I spent the past week in a little condo overlooking the Del Mar ocean and soaking up the suns rays on all the beaches along the San Diego coast. Though I did get a bit sun burnt, I had a blast kayaking, surfing, shopping, and spending some quality family time with my mom and sisters. How To: Dress For a Job Interview.

One of the questions I get asked frequently is what to wear to a job interview. While what matters most is what you say and what is on your resume, how you dress matters more than you'd think. Here are some helpful tips:

1. Pick a classic- Blazers are a must for all interviews. They are fashionable, chic, clean-cut, and professional. This is an item that every girl (and boy) should have in their closet.

2. Pick one trend- Show that you know this season's trends. Whether it be decorative prints, socks, or a nice shade of lipstick, be sure you don't over-do it because that may look like you're trying too hard. Instead, pair them with timeless pieces such as a solid tube skirt or trousers.

3. No logos- Try to stay away from logos. Yes it's important to know designers, but flashing them all over may seem as though you're showing off. Keep it simple.

4. Wear something vintage- Going to an interview does not require you to wear all new pieces. There are great classic vintage pieces that you can find that will show you really know how to find gems in the rough.

5. What to avoid- Avoid anything that is too tight or short, or reveals too much cleavage. Clothing that is costume-y or flashy, pantyhose, or anything that can be seen as too casual is a no-go. Though sweat pants are in this season, they are not interview appropriate. Just stick with classics and a few in-season trends and you're good to go.

Classic Colors [Fall].

Whether we like it or not, September is only a month away. For me, this is great news I'm so anxious for fall that I'm already shopping and filling my closet with the season's colors in mind, of course. I love fall colors best and this year, a few classic colors return and Nasty Gal is all over it.

1. Camel- The ideal fall color. If you don't already have nudes, khakis and beiges, now's the time to stock up. A classic color that never fails to make a return.

2. Olive- One of my favorites and another fabulous fall color, olive is in this season. Building on the military trend, all shades of greens and browns are making an impact.

3. Red- Whether you choose to accessorize with a splash of red or go all out with a dashing red coat, you can never go wrong with this color.

4. Stripes- A trend for quite some time, it looks as though stripes are carrying over into fall and to be quite honest, I couldn't be happier.

Whoever said scarves can't be worn in the summer clearly did not know what they were talking about. A light-weight scarf is the perfect addition to a summer outfit and can also easily be tucked into a purse for those chilly nights. I've never been a fan of wearing jeans, if you haven't noticed. I find them quite uncomfortable and do everything I can to avoid wearing them. But what I've come to discover is that all it takes is finding the right pair of jeans. Though I still don't wear them much, this pair of jeans has become a fave of mine. I love how versatile they are and that they work great for everyday lounging as well as going out.
Here are 10 tips to finding your perfect pair of jeans:

1. skinny jeans help elongate short legs..add heels and your legs will look even longer!

2. boot cut jeans are a great fit for everyone

3. if they're too tight, don't buy them

3. try different brands, don't give up after trying one

4. if you're curvy, find jeans that sit higher up on your hips to help accentuate your curves

5. high waisted jeans are fun and flattering

6. darker washes are more versatile and can be both dressed up or down

7. wash jeans inside out to keep them in prime condition

8. don't be afraid to alter a pair of jeans to fit you better

9. many brands offer a variety of styles for everyone's body type

10. invest in a good pair that fit well... the good quality is worth the price

To my blog readers that live in America, hope you all had a happy 4th! I most definitely did. I spent the day in Huntington Beach with my best girl friend and her family at their fabulous beach house. We managed to squeeze past the swarm of bikers and people to get to the beach and found a little empty square of sand that was just the right amount of space to lay our towels out. After working on our tans for countless hours, and munching on yummy food until our tummies hurt, it ended up being the perfect way to spend my fourth of July.

One of the many perks of working at a store is getting free goodies from our vendors. I was lucky enough to be given a pair of these glamorous $85 Tres Noir shades for free and they haven't left my face since. I'm not one to spend heaps of money on a pair of sunglasses, especially since I always manage to loose or break them, but if I hadn't been given a free pair, I might have considered splurging on these bad boys. Tres Noir focuses on using the highest quality materials at the best price possible. And to add to the sweetness? They're handmade! Yes, please!

Seed-Feed Blog Launch!

A few weeks ago, my boss at work mentioned that she wanted to get a blog started for the store. I told her that I have a blog and would love to run a blog for Seed. And so it began. Three weeks ago, I started creating a blog for our store and today, it is finally ready to be launched! I will be writing for the Seed People's Market blog and I'd love for you to check it out. I had a day off yesterday, words that too often sound foreign to me, and I chose to spend my free time wisely.. I use that term loosely. After sleeping in, my sister and I rode our bikes to Old Towne Orange and ever-so-elegantly scarfed down a whole medium margarita pizza at Zeto’s. Unfortunately, part of growing up means the ideal image of summer.. sleeping in and going to the beach every day.. quickly becomes but a dream. I’ve been working so much lately that it hasn’t felt like summer. But bike rides and pizza turned my dream summer into reality. It finally felt like summer and as you can tell, I made my day incredibly productive.

This dress has been sitting in my closet for months, dying to be worn.. and I've been dying to wear it. Unfortunately it's see-through, and finding the perfect dress for underneath has managed to hold my dress hostage for longer than I would have liked. While this wasn't how I had imagined wearing this dress, it atleast got it's time to shine.

[Fold a large scarf into a triangle and place flat edge on forehead, holding onto both corners]

[Turn scarf to one side of your head, keeping both corners of the triangle even]

[Tie a tight bow or knot, whichever you prefer]

[Tuck excess material under in the back]

[End result]

A Wasteless Summer.

American Apparel tank and belt, thrifted skirt, heels from Target

Inspired by the motto of Salvage Life Vintage, mentioned in a previous post, I have decided to take on a summer challenge. I will only purchase eco-friendly, re-purposed, thrifted or vintage items. I won't buy anything new, with the exception of a few necessities. I’ve realized that we overproduce SO many clothes in the world that go unused and disposed of improperly.. every little change can help. A majority of the world has already taken on the trend of using canvas bags at grocery stores, now we must take the next step. I’ll share my updates on this challenge throughout the summer, the tears and pain that come along with passing up H&M and F21. I urge all of you bloggers to take on this challenge!

Hair Fix.

Whoever invented braiding is pure genius. Braids have come to my rescue recently on my bad hair days. They're so quick and easy and not to mention, stylish! And what's even more great? They look good on everyone. There are so many different ways to braid your hair so if you think you're not much of a braid girl, perhaps you just haven't found the right braid for you. Hats, head scarves, and head bands are all perfect go-to accessories for bad hair days so don't be afraid to wear them! In fact, I just purchased some great head accessories from American Apparel. Can't wait to share them!
